I’m Monica O’Reilly. I hold a cum laude PhD in Literary Studies from the University of A Coruña in Galicia, Spain, as well as a Master of Arts and an Honours Degree in Languages for International Communication (English) from Dublin City University (DCU).
My academic journey has been shaped by a lifelong passion for literature, language, and the incredible ways different cultures connect and communicate.
As a specialist in the Leabhar Gabhála Éireann (The Book of the Taking of Ireland), I explore the mythological origins of the Irish people and their fascinating links to other ancient civilisations. Egypt, in particular, has captured my imagination for many years.
Its rich mythology, literary heritage, and cultural symbolism deeply influence my research. I focus on uncovering the echoes of Egyptian myths, migration stories, and sacred geography in Irish and Galician literary traditions, drawing connections between these cultures that, while geographically far apart, share profound symbolic and archetypal ties.
My work centres on comparative mythology, intercultural studies, and how ancient civilisations continue to shape modern European literature. For me, literature is more than just the written word — it’s a powerful way to build bridges, spark conversations, and rethink our shared histories.
Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope you find inspiration and insight in my work.
Monica
